Wedding Reception Games For Bride and Groom

The idea behind the evening wedding reception games for bride and groom is for the newlyweds to have a bit of excitement with their wedding guests.

It’s always exciting to watch the couple play games and have some harmless fun.

As there are plenty of wedding games that can be played by guests at a wedding reception, we thought it would be cool to round up some of our all-time favorites.

Fun Wedding Reception Games For Bride and Groom To Entertain Their Guests

The Wedding Shoe Game

This is sometimes called How Well Do You Know Each Other? For this fun wedding game, the bride and groom are usually placed on chairs on the dance floor while an MC reads out some questions.

Alternatively, the newlywed couple can also play this game from their seats at the top table or their sweetheart table.

The game begins with the couple removing their shoes. They swap one shoe so that the bride is left holding one of the groom’s shoes and one of her own.

The groom is left holding one of his shoes and one of his new wife’s shoes. With me so far?

An MC or a guest who likes speaking over the microphone on the wedding day will then start off by asking the happy couple a list of questions about their relationship and each other.

To answer the questions, the couple each holds up the shoe of the partner whom they think best answers the question.

The person asking the questions should keep them appropriate in case there are kids present!

Here are some examples of wedding shoe game questions to ask:

  • Who is most likely to get a hangover?
  • Who has a better sense of direction?
  • Who was the first to say “I love you”?
  • Who is the most likely to be late for appointments?
  • Who is the most likely to say “sorry” first after an argument?
  • Who is most likely to overspend?
  • Who actually made the first move?
  • Who is most likely to tidy up after the other?
  • Who is most likely to do most of the cooking?
  • Who is the most clever?
  • Who is most likely to get a scratch on the car when attempting to park?

What a fun game! (It’s my favorite!) I’ve seen this been played at numerous wedding venue receptions and guests always comment on what a great idea it was to play for the couple’s big day.

Here’s a video showing a funny wedding shoe game.

Bridal Karaoke or Marryoke

Before 2020, it was difficult to imagine how a wedding reception could be fun without dancing. Nobody wants a boring wedding.

For some of the weddings I was at in late 2020, I witnessed many amazing bridal karaoke (sometimes called marryoke) sessions.

A guest I happened to be randomly sat next to commented that this was one of the more popular Indian wedding games that she knew of.

Bridal karaoke is where members of the bridal party take turns to kick off a fun evening of singing wedding karaoke. It’s especially fun from the perspective of a wedding guest.

The bridal karaoke game usually kicks off after cocktail hour and before the bouquet toss.

Actually, come to think of it, I think this was one of the wedding reception games that became the most popular over the past year or so.

While not all of the wedding party have to sing, it’s expected that the bride and groom will sing either separately or together as a duet.

If one partner isn’t a fantastic singer, the other spouse can take the lead. Maybe let the winner of the shoe game gets to go first!

For sure, this is a fun way to kick off the wedding entertainment. One of the funniest moments I can remember was seeing a groomsman trying to sing a Britney Spears song, “Oops, I did it again!”

He even ended up having a dance-off with the father of the bride on the big day!

Who Takes The Cake?

Some might not even call this a game, but it can be!

The idea is that guests place money in two separate jars (usually located near the wedding cake). One jar is for the bride, the other is for the groom.

There can be a sign that says “For the Couple’s Honeymoon” beside the jars.

Later in the evening, whoever ends up with the most money in the jar gets wedding cake gently smushed all over their face by their partner.

From the weddings I attended last year, this was almost always the bride! All in the name of some harmless wedding fun for the happy couple.

Oh, and we definitely don’t suggest that you play it like this!!

Fun Photo Booth

A fun photo booth with props started becoming popular a few years ago. It creates awesome memories and really shakes off any notion of a boring wedding!

Usually, a fun photo booth can be hired and the weddings will be taken either by a booth operator or it will be an automatic system.

Either way, it’s a surefire way of ensuring that your guests are entertained.
